What to Expect in a Therapy Session

All sessions are carried out with complete confidentiality, remember, this is your time, trust, honesty and openness from the start make therapy more effective.

We’ll start by having an informal chat, I’ll be asking what you want and why you want it, so that I can understand where your motivation to change comes from. I’ll also ask about the situation, people, environment and feelings that may be involved in the change that you want to make. 

You can make yourself comfortable either sitting or reclined and allow yourself to be guided into a relaxed daydream like state.

There are many techniques that may be used, the ones chosen will be tailored to your individual needs from the information you have given earlier.

These may involve recalling memories, describing your thoughts and feelings, imagining the future, the way you want it to be. This is a pleasant relaxing experience.

Sometimes it may be beneficial to practice relaxation at home, or to keep a log or diary between sessions. You will be advised if this will assist with your specific goal/s. 

Sessions generally take place weekly. For simple problems such as habits, only one or two sessions may be required. More complex problems/goals may take several or more sessions. Whatever the problem or goal, I aim to obtain results in the least number of sessions. 

Some people attend occasionally over a longer term for things such as personal/professional development & maintaining weight balance.

Most sessions last approximately one hour, however you may attend for a free initial consultation (prior to your first session) if you wish, which will last for up to twenty minutes.
